"Pulse: The Untold Story" Nominated for Peabody Award
My Audible Original series investigated the Pulse nightclub shooting and raised questions about the FBI’s culpability.
I’m honored to share that my Audible Original documentary podcast series Pulse: The Untold Story has been nominated for a Peabody Award in the Podcast/Radio: Documentary category. The winners will be announced on May 1.
The Peabody Awards are among the most prestigious honors in media — often described as the broadcast equivalent of the Pulitzer Prizes. They recognize stories that illumine social issues with depth, integrity, and impact.
Released in July 2024, Pulse: The Untold Story investigated the Pulse nightclub shooting and raised troubling questions about the FBI’s role in the lead-up to the attack.
On June 12, 2016, Omar Mateen murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others inside a gay nightclub in Orlando. It remains the deadliest act of violence against the LGBTQIA+ community in U.S. history — and the worst terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11.
But there was a story you didn’t hear.
The FBI had a secret history with both Omar Mateen and his father. To obscure that history, the Bureau pushed a false narrative — one the media dutifully carried — that Mateen was secretly gay and had targeted Pulse in a calculated, premeditated attack.
My series uncovered the volatile relationship between Mateen and his father, and how their disturbing interactions with the FBI raise serious questions about whether federal agents could have stopped the massacre.
Pulse: The Untold Story, an eight-part series, is available now on Audible.
